Fun with Craiyon and other AI generation images
Hey everyone, I wanted to talk today about AI image generations. To start, here is a cute dog.
Why the dog?
Well, the truth is... AI image generation is just fun. If you're anything like me, you can make a mean stickman. However, being able to create images with prompts is just kind of fun. There is an added benefit that AI images aren't perfect and their imperfections can be hilarious. Example A:
I found this beauty a few weeks ago. The more I look at it the more I am confused on why the AI generates certain features. I am just in awe at the creativity that can be made from AI images. However, something I am also in awe about is how thought provoking and beautiful the images can be. Example B
The prompt for this image was Collage of dystopia and utopia. I don't consider myself an artsy person, but I have many family and friends who suffer from mental illnesses and for some reason this picture hits home for me.
Where do I start making master pieces?
I personally like using Craiyon. It's easy to use and creates some generally amazing pieces of work. I will warn you that you might accidently make some things of horror as well. Use AI images at your own risk. There are many other free and paid options for AI image generations as well. However, I would like to talk about something else.
Dangers of AI
The truth is, AI is getting better and better. There are some major concerns about AI becoming easy to use and it's accuracy. There's been many stories about people being fooled by AI art. There was one story in particular I can remember about AI art winning an art competition. Why is this a problem? Because of one saying. A photo is worth a thousand words. However, that statement might not be so true in just a couple of years. Photo generation of people is getting better, and can be used for malicious intentions. I have read the fear of AI being used in court rooms for evidence of a person saying something that they might not have. Get enough recording of a co-worker, teacher or boss and generate them saying something horrible to use as black mail. Unfortunately this is not science fiction anymore. There will come a time where AI will trick people for horrible uses.
That's really scary. What can we do?
Unfortunately not much. The internet has already evolved faster than laws and local authorities can keep up. The best thing we can do as instructors, educators and students is use AI responsibly and show the many benefits for it. While, also being aware of ways that it can be miss used. Being aware of evolving technologies is everyone's responsibly. So remember, if you see a video, photo or hear a voice recording of something. Take a second to review it for possible AI involvement. I don't like to leave blogs on a negative note so I have a game for you to play. Can you tell which one of these photos is AI?
I will have the answers at the end of my next blog, until then!
